Online Tutoring expectations

Tutoring Summary

Your first appointment will be a FREE consultation. In the first appointment, we will discuss the goals you have for your child, I will assess your child to identify what skills they need to work on so that I can customize their learning, and I will send you a detailed plan for your child.

AVAILABILITY: T-TH 2:30-5:30 PM (MST)

TUTORING SUMMARY

You will choose from a list of topics your child wants to learn or needs specific instruction in. Specific learning targets can include:

  • Phonemic Awareness and Letter Sounds (phonemic awareness is an auditory skill that works on segmenting and blending sounds in words to get ready for reading and spelling)
  • Reading and Spelling CVC Words (cat, bed, mug)
  • Reading and Spelling words with Blends (plan, sled, grant)
  • Reading and Spelling words with Digraphs (puck, wish, when)
  • Reading and Spelling words with Silent E (mute, poke, make)
  • Reading and Spelling words with Vowel Teams (seat, moon, boat)
  • Reading and Spelling words with Diphthongs (plow, trout, saw)
  • Reading and Spelling words with R-Controlled Vowels (cart, burn, her)
  • Reading and Spelling words with Consonant LE (maple, purple, simple)
  • Reading and Spelling High-Frequency Words (I teach the 107 Zeno High-Frequency words because they comprise 50% of all text)

1-on-1 tutoring allows me to design our time together based on your child's needs. When we tailor your child's education to meet their needs they will find more success. I will use structured literacy and the science of reading to direct my instruction. I will use mnemonic devices to teach spelling patterns, and structured literacy to build upon skills, periodically we will play games to practice and review skills, and will periodically assess them on the skill they are working on to gauge progress and move them onto the next skill if necessary.

Logistics

The online appointments will be conducted via Zoom. Please make sure that your child has the materials they need and are logged in a couple of minutes before the meeting so that we can start on time.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel within the 24 hours of the meeting, you can get a full refund.

Parental Expectations

As the parent you are the first and most important teacher to your child. You can work on skills that we work on outside of the tutoring sessions to help them to grasp the concepts. It is your job to ensure that they have the materials they will need for each sessions, they are in a learning space with minimal distractions, and that they are ready to learn with me.

If you have questions or ever want to know more about how you can help your child outside of each lesson I have created a self-paced course made with parents in mind. This course walks you through the foundational skills that your child needs to be successful in reading and writing and how to successfully implement these skills with your child. You can also email me at any time and I would love to help you and your child to succeed.
